BUYER BEWARE!!! This family owned business that’s been around for years have been around preying and lying. I guess that’s how they make a living by lying to people. I call inquired about an X3 bmw. When I arrived to check the car I was greeted by SueEllen she seemed very nice helpful, honest. I really trusted her to have integrity. When I hoped in the car I immediately smell gas. I asked her about it she said it was her. I test drove the car it seemed ok and I took her word about the awful smell. She was a little pushy getting me to get the car and I mean she would call me every drive t, after I got an approval from one main financial. She told me they go through coastal federal that was the first red flag. When I find was able to pick up the car which sat on the lot for two weeks plus it was time for an oil change and the was not super clean as far as detailing. Drove the car home smoke coming from engine! Reached out to SueEllen, she says well the car was fine when we had it. So I took it to this inspection and they notice small gas leak which was a simple tightening and the major $1200 issue is oil gaskets. I asked if they would replace now when she was talking to the inspector she acted so concerned but has not contacted me if they are doing to be a business of integrity or scammers. If she was honest up front and said they oil was leaking then that would be my decision to continue to purchase knowing the cost but she acknowledged the oil smell and said it was just oil residue. She need to take $1000 down payment and repair it. Also I know that money went to her pocket don’t let the hospitality fool you. Wolves in sheep clothing. Now I am stuck with a payment and repair. I am going to every social media outlet, and write my experience. I am also going to inform the better business bureau about the fuses coming out of the vehicle.

I went to check out a Tahoe today and it had more miles than I wanted to purchase. I didn’t catch the gentleman‘s name but he was very nice and not upset after I quickly made a decision not to go further with inquiring about the Tahoe. Most dealerships will get upset and become really pushy if you seem like you’re not interested. He even helped my elderly father back into our van. I will keep an eye out for what I’m looking for at this lot.

From beginning to end we were so pleased with their customer service and friendly staff. SueEllen was great! We test drove the car to Coastal Credit Union and got our loan. On 4/29/22 bought a 2014 Ford fiesta hatchback. Absolutely love this car! Shumaker motors is awesome! Sue Ellen is the best! I've had some credit issues and trying to get back on track. On 3/29/22 I bought a 08 Toyota Avalon from the Shumaker’s. The car was great quality and there customer service was excellent!!!! I had the stereotypical nightmare used car purchase here.. Bought a car that they assured me was in great mechanical condition only to have issues immediately that cost several thousands of dollars to fix. My mechanic told me he was surprised they sold it because it had several issues compromising the safety of the car. Do not trust them and buy a car here without a mechanic looking it over first.

Very easy to work with and down to earth. I helped my sister pick and buy a car from there and so far reigns true as to the condition of the car which is great. I actually enjoyed my conversations with Barbara, one of the owners. She was not pushy at all and did not try to direct me to others cars to buy. I like when you decide what you want instead of dealers trying to push vehicles off on you. The transaction was done quickly but professionally and at the same time kind of fun. Barbara is a very outspoken, caring, and sweet lady. It was a pleasure doing business there. I highly recommend this place.

Where do I begin?! For a young black couple in such a small old town like Clayton we honestly don’t expect to get the best service. Let’s start with saying, my boyfriend and I had THE best car buying experience ever at Shumaker’s Motors in Clayton. I mean when I say the best, I am sure that car buying couldn’t possibly get any better than it did last Saturday with Barbara and her husband Mr. Shumaker. I am so glad god pointed us to Shumaker’s Motors. Upon first calling and speaking with Barbara I was overwhelmed by her kindness, as I told her we were new to car buying. She really took her time helping me and we even made an effortless connection over the phone which sold me from the jump. When we arrived to our appointment, they welcome us with big smiles and upon arms! At this point we felt like family! We took a quick test drive of the vehicle that fit our absolutely every need, and exactly in our budget, we loved it! We got straight into the paperwork after returning. You wouldn’t believe how comfortable Barbara and her husband made us during this process. We got to know each other, we even shared stories and laughs. Barbara’s patience and her persistence was absolutely remarkable, We are so grateful to have met her and I thank god that we bought our car from Shumaker’s Motor’s!!!

If you are in the market for a reliable used vehicle, Chris and Barbara can fulfill your search. They carefully handpick their vehicles and stand behind each and every car they sell. I bought a hybrid Lexus from Shumaker Motors over a year ago, and the vehicle has been everything I expected from the car. Chris and Barbara offer the kind of customer service support that is not at all possible at other dealerships. I didn't want to drive my car around with a temporary tag and planned to park the car at home for the usual 30 days it normally takes the permanent tag to arrive in the mail. The Shumakers went out of their way to expedite the processing of my permanent tag; on the third or fourth day after I purchased my car, Barbara called to inform me that my permanent tag was ready for me to pick up. I should also note that their document fee is the fairest you can find anywhere in North Carolina. A year after my purchase, I am still thrilled with my car as well as with the Shumakers' honest customer service support. These guys rock.

Hello everyone! We are David & Ellen Friend, we have 4 young children and live in Durham. We actually did NOT buy a car from the Shumakers, and that is the reason for this review. We were interested in a minivan, and were planning to buy it, then at the last minute Chris Shumaker called me and let me know he noticed while driving the vehicle that something wasn't right with its transmission, and that he wouldn't be comfortable at all with selling it to me. We are super appreciative of their honesty, and highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vehicle :)

Call of the day about a 2001 Yukon truck white in color the woman on the phone really didn’t have an idea what she was the one said she would have to talk to the owner and then it was all we have a lot of money in it and you know I’ll have to talk to my husband it’s listed on their website under 5000 but she’s like I think we’re going to 165 or 7500 for the vehicle you know I don’t recommend this place at all there’s better dealerships in in the area than this one here.very unprofessional. There is a reason Chris and Barbara have been selling vehicles successfully in the same place for nearly 2 decades. They are honest and will not take advantage or try to gouge you. Both are extremely personable and friendly. Their only concern is that you drive away happy in the car you test drove 20 minutes earlier. The key to their longevity is not to sell you one car. They want to sell cars to all your family and friends before you come back again. The only way to do that is take care of every customer and they do that exceptionally well. My wife bought a car from them yesterday and I have no doubt I will buy one from them when it's time for my next vehicle. Finding a car lot whose owners exhibit this level of integrity is rare. It's worth the drive even if you don't live in Johnston County.

Yesterday, I completed the best car buying experience I have ever had. If you are content with the typical used-car buying experience, then this is not the place for you; however, if you crave better, make a visit to Shumaker Motors. The slogan of Shumaker is “Excellence in Used Cars, Trucks, & Vans Where Your Satisfaction is Our Reputation,” and Chris and Barbara work hard to live up to that. We initially visited Shumaker because we found a vehicle online that we wanted to check out. While we were there, Chris started telling me about all the little issues the vehicle has (it is in FANTASTIC shape for its age). My comment to him was that he was not supposed to tell me these things but allow me to find them out myself, to which he replied that he wanted to be completely honest with us. What impressed me most about Shumaker is that they will not put a car on their lot that they would not purchase for themselves; to me, that speaks volumes to their integrity and desire to sell excellent vehicles. We drive cars for a very long time, but it is my hope to purchase from Shumaker again in the future. As long as they are around, I will go to them first! Yes they are in Clayton, but yes it is worth the drive from Raleigh (where we live), Cary, or wherever you happen to be.

Best car experience I have ever had! I've bought my last few SUVs from either a Lexus dealership or the Mercedes Dealership. Shumaker's was by far the quickest and friendliest experience I have ever had. The Lexus GX460 I bought is in MINT condition and their knowledge of the vehicle and its previous owner and records was very insightful and honest. I will definitely buy my next vehicle from them. We just bought a beautiful Dodge pick up truck from Chris and Barbara on Veteran's Day, and these people are amazing!! Not your usual used car lot! I don't plan on going anywhere else in the future for buying vehicles. Chris and Barbara are HONEST (Yes, I said honest) business people. I was at one of those monster dealerships that was telling me how bad my credit was and that I would have to pay 19.9% interest when I got the call from Barbara that I was approved with a local reputable banker at 4.75%. The big name dealership was trying to make another $8500 in kick-backs and inflated fees on an $8000 vehicle. I demanded my keys for my trade (which Chris gave me $500 more than the dealership was offering) and headed straight back to Shumaker Motors. When I walked back in, I was razzed by Chris and Barbara and surprised to see my old pastor (not as in age Brack) sitting on the couch. He helps them by "holding down the fort" from time to time. I left my old Dakota in good hands and drove home with a beautiful Honda Pilot fully loaded and in excellent condition for a FAIR (Yes, I said fair) price! Thank you Chris, Barbara and Braxton, I will be back whenever I need anything else and will tell everybody in the market for a vehicle to TRUST (yes, I said trust) Shumaker Motors!!!

Let's start with Chris and Barbara. I met them for the first time October 21st, 2014. I spent nearly 3 hours chatting and having a nice afternoon. From start to finish they were super polite, personable and seemingly trustworthy...(keep reading)

Moving on to the vehicle, doesn't matter which...Short and sweet, if they have the vehicle you're looking for you'll receive a TRULY fair price without having to negotiate or haggle for a day. Also, no need to get all wound up about their $199 or $299 :) documentation fee when everyone else charges $399 or $499.

Back to Chris and Barbara! They will treat you right because they ARE trustworthy and I will drive 90 miles again to buy my next car.

Furthermore, just like any good business owners, they're in business to make a living. If you walk in expecting something for nothing, you deserve to leave with nothing but wasted time.

Lastly, if you read this review, go to them for your vehicle needs, and they treat you the same way they treated me...they DESERVE a positive review on any site you have access to!

I just bought a 2007 Yukon Denali from Chris and Barbara at Shumaker Motors. It was exactly the car I was looking for and the price was competitive. They gave me what I wanted for my trade-in and they even trued-up the brakes on the Denali while I waited. They were very professional and helpful. I rarely buy cars and usually keep them for years, so I was out of practice. The Shumakers made it a great experience for me.

I just purchased my 3rd vehicle from Shumaker Motors...second vehicle I have purchased from Anthony...first was from Chris over 8 years ago. They have earned my business. They have gone out of their way to keep my business. They have gone above and beyond to help me find the vehicle I wanted, a Toyota Tundra Crewmax, when I was not happy with the truck I had...they gave me more for the trade in on the truck I was not happy with than elsewhere.
Maybe you can call me biased because I have had nothing but good experiences with Shumaker Motors, but the sour grapes guy below, floats a check, admits to it, and then blasts Anthony...that's just wrong. I will guarantee that if Anthony said he would not deposit a check, he did not until the pre-determined minimum time he was asked to do so or without a phone call, now whether or not you decided to ignore that phone call because you spent the money on something else...that's on you. Do business the right way to begin with, have the money you need for what you want and make responsible financial decisions. Don't ask people to float checks for you and you won't overdraw your account.
If you are an honest customer, this is an honest dealership. I live in Knightdale and work in Clayton. I am not in the car business and I have not been asked to write this review.

Just months after getting married, purchasing our first house, and a new car for myself, my wife's car was totaled putting us in the market for another car much earlier than we had anticipated.

We found a sweet Sienna mini-van at Shumaker Motors of Clayton that was only 2 years old with very low miles. The Sienna was perfect for us and the price was right.

When my credit was pulled for the financing, the sales person discovered that the very recent purchase of our new home and a new car for myself had a negative effect on my credit rating making financing the purchase more difficult.

The sales person said he understood our position and would do every he could to help us get the financing. That he did! He followed us to a local Four Oaks Bank, met with and talked to the banker with us! We walked out of that bank less than an hour later with financing and keys to the Sienna we still have today.

We were extremely happy with our experience at Shumaker, have been happy with our purchase, have told all our friends and family about Shumaker, and would purchase from them again in a heartbeat!

We just purchased a 2009 EX-L Honda Odyssey from Shumaker Motors and it was a great experience. The van was in excellent condition inside and out and we were extremely happy that we found them. Anthony was very knowledgeable about our trade-in and was very easy to work with in regards to financing and also on the trade-in.
